A crew is a standalone unit that can be associated with a troop.  The Troop Committee made no decisions at this time.  If an adult volunteers to champion this organization, Ben was asked to work with him or her in contacting the Circle 10 Venturing  coordinator and other Venturing Crews in the area to understand better what's required to set up a Crew.

o Proposal for Knot Tying recognition (John Steger, Casey Hodges)

       - John and Casey propose adding a fourth level of knots to the troop's existing tiers of Red, Blue, and Gold Ropes.        - The troop was unable to have everything come together (camping site, trained climbing/rapelling staff, gear) to have a climbing campout.      o Trip to National Scouting Museum

       - Troop is planning to attend this museum in Irving on March 29.  Anyone wanting to go who is not already signed up should contact Mark Steger or Bob Centola.

     o Snow makeup day

       - Because of ice, the Feb 24 Troop meeting was cancelled.  The troop plans to have a "snow makeup day" on April 14. This is the Monday after Camporee, normally a PLC meeting, not a regular troop meeting. We will not have a regular troop meeting, but Merit Badge classes will meet to complete requirements. Scouts taking Merit Badge classes should plan to attend. Class B uniform is OK.

7. Leadership - Tom Schob

     o Troop Guides

       - Older Scouts (Star and Life) should consider signing up for being Troop Guides beginning in April when new Webelos Scouts join the troop. Eligible Scouts should have received a letter in the mail describing this position. If your son is interested, have him contact Tom Schob.

7. Leadership - Tom Schob/Rick Montgomery

     o 2003-2004 troop leadership planning

       - When: June 21 and 28, 9:00AM - 12:00PM

9. Committee - Mark Steger

     o 2003-2004 adult leadership planning

       - Mark plans to email all parents a list of adult leader positions within the troop. Parents are requested to mark the positions that they are willing to serve in and return the survey. Adults are allowed and even encouraged to continue serving in the same positions they held in 2002-2003 or volunteer for new positions if desired. Please be on the lookout for this and return it in a timely fashion.

     o Youth Protection Training

       - Training is now online. All registered adults are required to have this training. Troop 81 will begin enforcing this policy.  If you have not had this training, take the training online at: http://www.scouting.org/pubs/ypt/ypt.jsp

     o Adult leadership

       - Troop 81 needs an adult OA member to volunteer to be our OA coordinator. OA is an important program, both for recognizing outstanding Scouts and for keeping many Scouting programs staffed and running (like Camporee, Winter Camp, etc.). If you are an adult OA member, please consider taking on this responsibility that was handled well for several years by  Richard Carter.

     o Berkner HS expansion

       - Troop 81 needs to begin thinking about what changes, if any, might be needed when Berkner becomes a four-year high school in the 2005-2006 school year. For example, if ninth graders are included in the marching band program, which practices Monday nights, we'll have more of a conflict than ever with Monday night troop meetings.
