 Agenda

 0. Campout presentation for February campout by Shark patrol

Max Bathman presented the February campout.  This is the pre-camporee campout -- Scouts will practice their scout skills and host visiting Webelos.

Competitions will be around:

    Fire building, knot tying, 1st Aid, Physical fitness, orienteering, Lashing. (Use of an Axe on Sunday w/ Scouts only.)

Common Dinner for all the campout participants, in that every patrol cooks the same dinner (common menu). Webelos will be divided up into the patrols. Webelos' parents will eat with the Adults.

Items that Webelos should bring for day camp:

    Flash lights, sack lunch (troop provides dinner), Rain gear/Pancho, Water bottle,  hat,  Coats

    We will have coolers for Webelos lunches.

Jesse is recruiting from Troop OA members to help staff this campout competition.

Building a camp entrance for Troop 81 banner.  Carry the Herrin created T81 signs to mark the trail to our campsite.

Patrols need skits; Invite the Webelos patrols to do skits in information handout.  Having a contest.

 3. PLC - Jimmy McCarthy  

Troop will staff an entire event at Camporee.  Physical fitness event. Jesse Benavides is organizing this effort in coordination with the OA.

 4. Roundtable - Craig Christensen  

Camporee information passed out.   Adult training starts Feb 2.  Find information at "http://northtrail.org" All patrol councilors and their assistants are encouraged to take this training.  The troop will reimburse for the class fee.

OA election coming - Feb 14th -- OA election introduction -- Ed Nichols will describe

We need to report to OA chapter that we know how to do the election.

Lots of TFC's finished all their requirements for 2nd class except for the Board of Review at the last campout.

In late spring, there will be a 1st Aid MB class for those first year scouts that completed 1st Class.

0. Campout presentation for March campout (Camporee)

    The plan was presented. The campout will be at James Ray Scout Reservation on March 18-20th.   The theme of this year's camporee is "Into the Woods".

1. Upcoming calendar events

   Feb 21 - Troop meeting - Campout planning and OA elections, and Philmont payment due ($222.50).

   Feb 23rd - Fund raising dinner at Nedley's Restaurant. (at 1801 Plano road, and http://www.nedleys.com)  Dinner is from 5:30PM-9:00PM.   Let the waiter know you are with Troop 81

   Feb 25-27 - Pre-camporee Campout - Camp Wisdom

   Feb 28th -  Screen "A Time to Tell" video for Troop at 7:00PM in Sanctuary

2. Treasurer - Kathy Dumanski

    Kathy provided the financial report for January.

3. PLC - Jimmy McCarthy

    The agenda for the next PLC is to do the camporee planning - Jesse Benavides is to communicate our Troop's plan for managing an event

4. Roundtable - Craig Christensen

   Help is being sought on a Potato bagging and distribution service project for Feb 27th. (Conflicts with our campout)  Call Todd Bristow if interested (214)-325-6263.

Minutes for March Committee meeting

1. Upcoming calendar events

   Committee voted to adjust Family campout price to $13/$19 instead of $13.81/$19.81.

2. Treasurer - Jeanie Lawson/Kathy Dumanski

   Report sent by Kathy and accepted by committee.

3. PLC - Jimmy McCarthy (Hunter presented in Jimmy's absence)

   Each patrol is planning an event for family camp.

   Each patrol has to prepare a skit too.

   Encore performance of camporee skit (1st place)

4. Roundtable - Craig Christensen

   Trash Bash is April 2nd - Sponsored by the City of Richardson

   Safety afloat, safe swim defense classes at UTD (see northtrail.org).

   Craig has made arrangements to obtain Tandy leather products for troop use -- the OA ceremony team may benefit from this.

5. Camping - Dennis McCarthy

            Lottery on April 1

    Rich Montgomery reported that a future possible campout location is Cross Timbers area.  It has a 14 mile hiking trail.   Bonnie Branch believes this site is also known as Juniper point and highly recommends it.

6. Meetings - Bob Centola

   Bonnie would like to have a merit badge make up class on Monday night after the April campout (April 18th).  She is seeking one adult from each merit badge class that was taught this past year for that night to sign off requirements demonstrated as completed.  Scouts will have to do the required work before hand.

7. Leadership - Rick Montgomery

   District level leadership training is coming up on April 23-24th.  Talk to Rick or see the "northtrail.org" web site for more details.  This training is recommend for all scouts that have completed the Troop provided training course.

   Troop level leadership applications are going out soon.

   Applications for ASPL need to be sent in ASAP (before April 11th).

   SPL nominations on March 28th and April 4th.

   Election for SPL on April 11th.

   New SPL will be in charge of June planning meeting.

   There was a comment that some scouts are not doing a good job keeping tracking charts of the work they complete in their leadership positions.  The grey notebook describes the process and has a tracking chart that can be copied for use by scouts.

   There was a suggestion to have parent’s meeting for going over the Grey notebook.  Topics:

      * How it works for 1st years

      * How it works for those leaving “Trail to First Class” and

      * Adults roles in the troop

        * Mentoring training

   Bonnie, Rick and John to coordinate.

      Pat reported this status on Scouts working toward Eagle:

         Project completed and working on Report - Scott Bonds and Casey Hodges

         Project in Planning - Mitchell Hampton (BD Sept/2005); Jason Brassfield (BD May/2005), Jimmy McCarthy

         Initial Planning - 4-5 more scouts who have had initial meetings but haven't started the planning process.

9. New Scouts - Gale Marvin/Brian Moore

   So far, eleven new scouts have transition from Webelos into Troop 81.  Two more have expressed interest.

10. Recruiting - Brian Moore

    Brian is working on the job description for his new position.  He is looking into how Troop 81 can help with Twilight Camp 

11. Misc

    Spots open for our Sea base 2006 trip. If your scout would like to participate, please let Brian Moore know soon.  Mr. Moore needs to complete our enrollment before March 31st.

    Troop 81 will be entering the lottery for Northern Tier 2006 soon. Interested scouts let Dennis McCarthy know soon.

    Dan Lassiter has suggested we combine two of our smaller patrols; they usually camp together anyway.  Gale and Brian will be working the details.

    Our sponsor church (RBF) has us to perform a service project on April 23rd.  This is to do a setup for a ground's visitation on April 23rd and probably a take down on April 24th.  Bonnie will find out more details.

    Brian has some ideas on how to organize the band students into a working force or an active force into the troop.  He will develop his ideas and send a follow-up email.

     Reviewed May's report and approved except for a change to where Scout Show entries were shown.

     Reviewed proposed budget for next year.  Minor changes.

     There is a opportunity for scholarships to Sea Base from the BSA.

     The next year's budget also has money budgeted for scholarship opportunities.

     Action: Benavides make sure we get our tax back from family camp.

     Action: Kathy needs a list of scouts leaving to so we can clear up their scout accounts.

   3. New Troop Cap

     We reviewed the new proposed Troop cap design.

     The committee approved purchase of 50 hats to be sold at $12 each.

   4. Reviewed status for summer camping activities

     => Philmont - Leaving July 5th  - Benavides/McCarthy/Hood/Montgomery

     => Summer Camp - Leaving July 10th - Moore/Marvin/Christensen

     All planning was on track.

Here are the minutes from our September 2005 Troop Committee Meeting

0.  The October campout was presented.

  Dates are Oct 14-16th, 2005

  The campout's theme is Fall camping.  Activities include camping, hiking, fire starting, water relay, cobbler competition, Dutch oven cooking, Fishing

      There will be an award for the best skit presented at Saturday's campfire.  (PLC will review the plan on Monday Sept 19th).

  Going to Camp Meisenbach (using Ram Bluff camp site) -- Near Athens, TX.

  Cost will be $16.00 per scout.

1. Financial - Jeanie Lawson (Treasurer)

  Jeanie Lawson presented the Financial Summary for August, 2005.  Also, she passed out Scout Account balances.

  Craig Christensen reported on information from the Monthly North Trail district round table

      Oak Leaf training = Oct 1-2, 2005 At Camp James Ray.

  Adult leader training = Start Sept 28th,     [John will send out email with link to web page -- northtrail.org]

  North Trail district dinner will be on January 22, 2006.

  $15 per meal (Six people per table).

  John Benavides is collecting nominations for YES awards.

  The district is sponsoring a trip to Peru for next summer.  Spots still available for scouts and adults .  See the web site for details.

  Next Court of Honor is Oct 24th.

0. Winter Camp planning

      Planning is just beginning

1. PLC - Hunter Christensen

      Feedback from PLC is that scouts liked horsemanship activity.

      29 scouts finished the merit badge.

      Didn't like the camping site  (too close to highway).

      Wanted to ride the horses more - in the future a trail ride would be better.

      Wilderness survival campout - Three scouts finished the merit badge (Joseph Corcoran, Mark Liners, Zack Pitts).

      Crowley Service project

            Jack Benavides finished service for 50 miler

            Nick Montgomery finished service for 50 miler

            Nathan Chase lacks one hour for 50 miler

2. Treasurer - Jeanie Lawson

      Lexington money is due soon too.

      $1420 paid last week for 2nd payment to Lexington.

      Dan and Jeanine will see what it takes to get us a Tax Exempt status for the State Park system.

3. Roundtable - Craig Christensen

      Had a pot luck dinner with the Cub Scout leaders.

      Was a good chance to describe the transition to scouting for the Webelos leaders.

4. Camping - Dennis McCarthy

      Lock in is setup for Saturday Dec 3rd.

          Sending out the forms and collecting money at next two meetings (Nov 21st and Nov 28th).

          Passing out the hand out again.  Sending out again on Troop agenda meeting message this week again.  Should be plenty of spots for new scouts to participate too.

5. Meetings - Bob Centola

     Announcement from Bob:

      1-the on line calendar has been updated thru to April 2006.

      2- we need to sure up the date for the Ranch 111 campout in March. We looked at March 4th as we were looking at the 4 weeks between the Feb 10-12 campout and the March 17-19 campout. This looks to work well as there are no Federal holidays/school holidays to cause a challenge to that weekend.

      3-Round table and OA meeting on 12-13

      4-Summer camp interviews commence 12-10 for job positions

      5- New Leader essentials training Feb-8,15,22 then March 1 followed by weekend on March 10-12

      6. Is the next COH going to be at Family campout (Need to invite Friends of Scouting guy).

    Things to add to the next meeting agenda:

      * Money due:

            December lock in money due.

            Lexington balance coming due

      * December 5th meeting may only be merit badges - parking will be an issue because Church will be having an X-mass celebration.

      * Northern Tier announcement - Deposit due December 15th

      * Philmont drawing coming up.

      * Need current merit badges added to agenda

      * Money due for pop corn sales soon.

      * Announce that Sea Base spots are going to be offered to other Troops.

6. Leadership - Rick Montgomery

      Need to have patrol elections soon.

      Rich to coordinate.

      OA elections are coming up soon too - Cameron Fuentes and Ed Nichols to coordinate.

7. New Scouts - Gale Marvin

      Had five Webelos join us from the old MST pack.

      We need more adults to help with first year program.

      See if Neal Tarlton can help.

      Dan will talk to Gale about getting helping with first years.

      Arrow of light team will be helping with an AOL ceremony on Saturday (Nov 19th) at 6PM.

      Craig is defining which patrol the new scouts will go into.
