Minutes from Troop Committee Meeting on February 15th, 2007

 1. Review of Camporee plans - Mr. Hopkins and Mr. Nichols  

    Jim presented the campout.

    Discussed having the PreCamporee campout this year again. (Mitchell's campout) -- Mr. Meeks will look for a site and set a date.  Possible places include the Church's new property or Ranch 111 or Breckenridge park.

 2a. Summer camp plans - Mr. Christensen and Mr. Marvin 

Date for first payment coming up. 

We need to send out a reminder email. 

[March 19th is when first payment is due: $132.50]

 2b. Philmont preparation planning - Mr. Weaver, Mr. Rachuig, and Mr. Montgomery

Have an adult taking wilderness first aid class.

Adult survival training this weekend.

 3. Roundtable - Craig Christensen 

Mr. Meeks and Mr. Benavides attended.

      New parent orientations was main topic.

      Help new parents transition.

      Discuss Expenses -- new tents (have a tent exchange, or swap meet, ...)

      Have mentoring for new scouts.

      Buy tents at a discount and sell;

Brian Moore and Tim Meeks will partner to present hints about camping equipment to troop.

 4. Treasurer - Jeanie Lawson

 5. Meetings - Bob Centola  

   OA elections on Feb 19th -- need big scout turn out.

   Bob and Winston are going to build a point system to recognize patrols for phone tree calling.

 6. Leadership - Rick Montgomery  

Nine boys turned out for the Junior leader training.

Applications going out in March for new troop leaders (1st class and above).

Oak leaf coming up: March 31st.

 7. New Scouts - Gale Marvin

     o Recruiting - Charlie Rachuig  

Have a number of scouts considering joining us.

 8. Advancement - Bonnie Branch

Rules have changed around leadership in 2005 handbook -- leadership can be met in a venturing crew.

Chris Rickett is in need of meeting the leadership requirement and would like to use his leadership in venturing.

Bonnie, Pat, John, and Craig will get together to discuss how to document Chris' leadership requirement.

  Pat volunteered to take the lead on this issue.

     o Eagles - Pat Kelly  

Justin Collins -- proposing replacing the bridges at the RISD nature area -- replace with cedar wood.

Nathan Chase -- proposing hanging stain glass windows.  Glass is built... adding a frame around them.

Pat is setting up two planning presentations

  * Band Banquet may conflict -- suggestion to move the campout to Late April.

      Ideas for events: Miniature golf course, Archery

            (Deferred Activity planning to next PLC (March 26th).)

 2. Camporee plans -- last minute preparation discussions

  Derek is presenting our Troop's event at the Camporee planning meeting today.

  Will need 3 or 4 senior scouts to help staff the event.

  Derek is encouraged to recruit senior scouts to help staff event (Alan Aragon, Hunter Christensen)

 3. Scout show - Tickets and Booth discussion

     - Mr. Meeks and Mr. Centola coordinating  

     Scout show is on May 12th.

     Monday night picked up 900 tickets.  Tickets are $10.

     Sign them out at March 19th meeting.

     T81 signed up to do the rope bridge again.

     Bob is going to see if Michael Leners would like to coordinate setting up the rope bridge.

     Tim is going to see if we can setup for sales with Mobile-one (a sponsor that is giving $10 discount for an oil change.)  

 4. Roundtable - Craig Christensen

     Roundtable is actually next week.

 5. Treasurer - Jeanie Lawson

April Troop committee meeting minutes.

Date: Thursday, April 19th at 7:00PM at RBF

 Agenda for this next Troop committee meeting:

 1. Review of April campout and May meeting plans

     2nd Apr campout - "Do nothing" - Spartan patrol & Mr. Moore

     Softball game - May 7th

"Do nothing" campout:

      Moved to April 27-29th (From May) Planning on the Animal Husbandry merit badge.   Will herd up some animals for tagging.  On this campout there is a release form required.  Conservation project on this campout too. 

May meetings: (Mondays)

      Apr 23rd:

            Campout planning

            Sign up for scout show -- counts as a scout event and not scout service

            Fees due:

            * Check for campout, $10 for grub.

            * $13 for rough rider baseball game

      Apr 30th:

            Merit badge, No PLC

            (finish currently in progress merit badge classes.)

      May 7:

            Annual Softball game (at Crowley Park)

            Brian Moore and Laura Jones to organize food/drinks for the game.

            $3 for dog, chips, and a coke.  (And a $1 for extra dogs)

      May 14th:

            Court of Honor is on May 14th.  All scouts and their parents and family are encouraged to attend, even new scouts that just joined.

Other events coming up in the next couple months:

            Scout show at Market Hall from 10AM to 3PM

      May 17th:

            is an orientation meeting for Summer Camp – 7PM at RBF

            Scouts attending summer camp and their parents are Invited.      

      May 17th:

            is also an orientation meeting for Philmont participants and their parents.

      Meek and Moore will institute a camp stove reclimation policy.

      Meeks, Benavides, Weaver are sponsoring Saturday Philmont hike.   9AM meet at RBF.

 2. Scout show - Tickets and Booth discussion

      Meek, Christensen, McCarthy, Benavides will be some of the adults at the scout show.

 3. Court of Honor planning (May 14th)

      Activities planned:

            Awards, merit badges, change over of leadership -- scout and adult,

            Friends of scouting presentation.  

      Bob needs "jpg" or "jpeg" pictures for a slide show by April 30th meeting.

      John Benavides to give several adult awards to Bob Centola.

      Moore requested that Rick Montgomery gets the scout positions finished by the COH.

 4. Roundtable - Craig Christensen

      Was a cook off -- didn't attend.

      Approved the spread sheet.

      May 7th Softball game -- we have the pavillion at Crowley park reserved as backup.

      On June 10th, the Frisco Rough Riders will host boy scouts at the baseball game.  Sign up by April 23rd meeting -- Need $13 dollars.

Committee Meeting Minutes

September 24, 2007

7 p.m., RBF Church

1.     Campouts

  1. October ~ Mark Buettner presented Badger’s marksmanship campout:

Oct. 19-21, $36 per scout plus $12 grub (extra $2 for pumpkins)

Location TBD ~ either Mr. Moore’s land or Mr. Marvin’s land

There will be rifle and shotgun shooting along with pumpkin launch.

Each patrol to build a catapult to launch pumpkins. Competition for furthest launched.

*Laura to look into training for an additional NRA trained adult.  Miko Sprunck has volunteered.  Currently certified adults are Brian Moore and Steve Weaver.

  1. November ~ Henry Kim presented the Fox patrol’s fishing campout:

Nov. 16-18, $18 per scout plus $10 grub. Location: Mineral Wells State Park. Scouts need to bring cold weather gear as it may get cold. Each scout to bring a log for the fire and own fishing gear.  All adults will need fishing licenses.  Contest for largest fish (individual) and most fish caught (patrol).

  1. December ~ Due to lack of interest, there will be no ski trip this year. John Benavides and Gale Marvin will own winter camp at Camp Cherokee: Dec. 27-31, cost TBD.  Look for OA volunteers to staff camp.
  2. Sea Base ~ Steve Weaver researched.  There seems to be enough interest for at least 2 crews, but only available dates are in August which will interfere with band.  He will check on possible waiting list for June or possibility for going during spring break. Otherwise, plan for summer 2009 trip.  May look into Northern Tier as an alternative for summer 2008.
  3. Philmont 2008 ~ Steve Weaver will research.  Dates become available October 2007.

b.     Part 2 ~ A plan to apply what you learned in part 1.  Create and carry out a plan of action.  When complete, you earn the recognition, beads, neckerchief and woggle that are the Wood Badge.

     b. Training ~ Youth Leaders

          Level 1 ~ Troop level training (TLT) taught by troop (3 hours)

          Level 2 ~ District level ~ Oak Leaf (1 weekend)

          Level 3 ~ Council level ~ Golden Acorn (1 week)

          Level 4 ~ National level ~ NAYLE (national advanced leadership      experience)

7.  Recruiting ~ Miko Sprunck

Email from Big Spring’s Webelos requesting a visit.  It was decided that Oct. 29th is a good meeting for them to attend.  Miko will invite Yale and Dartmouth packs to same meeting.  We will also invite them to Webelos Woods.

·        Committee voted to purchase a projector for the troop from HP with John Benavides’ discount. Purchase to be made prior to Webelos’ visit so we can show slide show presentation.

8. PLC update ~ James Herd

Mountain biking campout went well.  PLC voted to call parents and send scouts home on future campouts for: cursing, stealing food and/or disrespecting equipment.  All scouts will adhere to strict Class A uniforms for meetings and campouts.

Troop recharter report ~ Subcommittee (Laura Jones, Brian Moore, Tim Meeks and Miko Sprunck) Laura had contact with New Life Christian Fellowship Church, and they are open to chartering our troop and continuing to let us meet at 1515 Blake. Brian contacted council to have one council rep. come with us to a meeting with New Life’s staff to answer any questions they may have. After options are finalized, the troop committee will vote on choices. Decision to be reached prior to December recharter.

October Committee Meeting Minutes

October 22, 2007

RBFC, 7:30 pm

Attendees: Scott McCray, Brady Anderson, Gale Marvin, Eileen Welnack, Kevin Batey, Jeanie Lawson, Charlie Rachuig, Steve weaver, John Benavides, James Herd, Ethan Moore, Derek Centola, Brian Moore, Jim McKnight, Craig Christiansen, Tim Meeks, and Laura Jones

1.     Troop recharter

a. Gale Marvin, Tim Meeks and Laura Jones met with Pastor Buck and elders of New Life Bible Church on October 11, 2007.  They have agreed to charter Troop 81 from December 2007 forward.

b. Craig Christiansen met with members of RBFC, and they have agreed to let us switch our charter.

c. After answering all questions, Laura made a motion to accept a change in charter from RBF to New Life Church which will enable Troop 81 to remain at 1515 Blake Drive.  The motion was seconded by Gale, and the motion was unanimously passed.

d. Craig agreed to check with RBFC to determine how Troop 81 can help with the church’s move.

e. Committee agreed to make a gift to RBFC as a thank you for their continued support over the last 25+ years.  Troop to use fundraiser to raise money for gift. The form of gift will be determined after visiting with elders of RBFC.

f. Committee also agreed to donate a plaque to RBFC for their new facility recognizing their support of Troop 81. Laura will discuss with Cesar Aragon.

2.    Winter camp (December 27-31) ~ Gale Marvin/John Benavides

a.    Winter camp will be at Camp Cherokee. Individual cost to be $110 for on time registration ($35 deposit due 12/3 and balance due by 12/10) and $120 for late registration (12/10 or later).

b.    Information will be handed out at the meeting as well as emailed out. Gale to email hand outs to Laura to send out to entire troop.

c.     Pre-camp meeting to be during our regular meeting on Dec. 10.

d.    All merit badges will need to be chosen by Dec. 3.

e.    James Herd to organize the sled race.

3.    Sea Base ~ Steve Weaver

Will keep troop appraised of any openings for Summer 2008.

4.    Philmont 2009 ~ Steve Weaver

a.    Committee agreed to request 2 treks for 2009. Steve will register troop for drawing. 

b.    Deposit required by December.

5.    Roundtable ~ Tim Meeks

a.    Reminder that Oak Leaf training will be October 26-28 at Camp Wisdom.  Info. at www.northtrail.org

b.    Troop is eligible for two YES awards ~ John B. to forward info. to Laura

6.    Meetings ~ Scott McCray

a.    Webelos to visit on October 29th. Yale, Dartmouth and Big Springs invited.

b.    Brian will be in charge of rope bridge

c.     Gale, Laura and Tim to talk to parents

d.    Troop DLP projector is on the way and should be here for the meeting as per John

e.    John has three videos to show and well as one Brian has.

f.      Committee voted and approved motion to check into possibility of acquiring a laptop for the troop.  HP has a 60/40 program for purchasing equipment that John will look into.

g.    Committee discussed possible need to purchase additional equipment for the troop once RBFC moves.

h.    Moving our troop meetings next year to Tuesdays was brought up.  This would enable the older boys in band to attend all year around.  Laura will discuss this with the new building owners to see if this is feasible for them.

7.    Leadership ~ Rick Montgomery (absent)

8.    PLC update ~ James Herd

a.    Marksmanship campout went well.  Suggestion made that in the future we move marksmanship campout to the spring for more daylight shooting time.

b.    Patrols not getting information for campout…food not bought, pumpkins not purchased. Working on a system to change this.

9.    Camping ~ Tim Meeks

a.    Camporee has been moved to April 4-6, 2008.

Committee approved changing “Mitchell’s campout” from a half day event to a weekend campout.  SPL’s will own this campout . Dates:  March 7-9, 2008.

1.     Eagle update ~ Pat Kelly

2.     December campout ~ Gale Marvin

We preregistered 25 boys and 8 adults. To date, we have 19 boys and 5 adults signed up.

3.     January campout ~ Shark patrol

Due to change in patrol counselor, this campout has not been finalized. Rick Montgomery is Shark patrol’s new patrol counselor. He will research a place for the lock-in and approval will be done by email due to lack of time.

4.     Treasurer ~ Jeanie Lawson (not present)

Financial report reviewed and approved by those present. We’ve met our budget with dues paid to date. Laura will email scout account balances to troop so all can see where their balances are.

5.     Roundtable ~ Laura Jones

Roundtable focused on online registration. December roundtable is Thursday, Dec. 13th at LDS and is a pot luck supper (6:30). Miko agreed to attend.

6.     Leadership ~ Rick Montgomery

November 26th meeting will focus on leadership. Open positions, tracking charts, etc. Rick will also discuss this with patrol counselors and adult leadership.

7.     Recruiting ~ Miko Sprunck

Webelos visit at campout went well according to all in attendance. Miko will invite more Webelos to January lock-in.

8.     PLC update ~ Winston Duncan

Welcome to our new SPL. November campout review:

Positives : Good use of buddy system by all scouts, hike was enjoyed, boys welcomed the new equipment, and all enjoyed the skits

Negatives: Not many fish caught, suggestion made that we move fishing campout to earlier or later in the year, several would have liked a boat to fish further off shore, patrols prefer to do own menus ~ agreed to by committee as long as all menus are approved by patrol counselors in advance

9.     Camping ~ Tim Meeks

Thanks to Tim for purchasing new equipment for the patrols! Troop needs new rope and new lanterns. Tim will look into purchasing these.

10. Change in SPL ~ Brian Moore

Brian apprised all of situation requiring change in SPL. Brian will put together a letter to be emailed to all regarding this.

11. Jim McKnight

As part of his Wood Badge, Jim is helping build a bike trail at Purtis Creek Park in Eustace, TX. He needs volunteers to help. He will take as many boys as can attend. He will leave Richardson at 7 am on January 5th to drive to Eustace. They will work from 9 to 4 pm with lunch provided.  Adult volunteers are also needed to help drive and for two-deep leadership. All boys attending will receive service hours. Jim will ask for volunteers at the next few meetings.
