~ Tim Meeks Canoeing
campout went well with only one capsized canoe. The wind was the biggest
obstacle, but all had a good time. There
are several recurring problems with campouts: a)
Scouts
bringing too much gear b) Scouts
walking around without shoes after being told to put them on. c)
Poor food
safety and storage d) Misuse
of camp stoves, etc. Committee
agreed to take time during several regular meetings next year to reeducate the
scouts on these points. Committee
agreed that scouts should be sent home for bad language, disrespecting
equipment and failure to follow safe camping procedures (as per September 2007
committee meeting minutes). 10
Roundtable ~
Tim Meeks Information
provided on troop medical bags and tour permits. Medical
bag recommendations

all medications, but as the bag has been stored on the trailer, the committee
agreed to purchase new medications. c)

~ Council does notify facilities on tour permits. If you do not arrive, the
facilities are to call council. Therefore, tour permits should be changed or

tolerance for scouts failing to abide by the Scout Oath or Scout Law. This
includes bad language, disrespecting equipment and failure to follow safe
camping procedures. A quorum of leadership at any campout may determine what
constitutes a violation of the Scout Oath or Scout Law and will call parents
to immediately pick up their scout regardless of time or location of the
campout. Any scout that is sent home will receive a first warning letter as
per the Troop Discipline Policy found on page 33 of the gray notebook.
All parents and scouts are strongly encouraged to read and discuss this
policy. 6)

September
Campout ~ Brian McCray (Pyro Patrol) September 19-21,
2008. Float trip in San Marcos.
Camping at Pecan Park Retreat. This is an
expensive campout, so the committee discussed, voted and approved a motion
to subsidize a portion of the campout to cut down on costs to the scout.
The hope is that we will make the shortfall up over the course of the
year. The final costs are: $45 per scout, $12 for tube and returning lunch
on Sunday, $10 grub for a total of $67 for the entire campout. Adults will
also pay for their tubes, lunch and grub. Gather time has
been moved up to compensate for the long drive. The troop will gather at
5:30 and leave by 6:00. All scouts that
are tubing will need a swim test as per BSA rules. This can be done at the
back to school swim party. Campout will be
presented to the troop on Monday, September 8, 2008. Scouts will be
encouraged to bring water guns and snorkel gear. 2.
October

Moore’s Ranch. Cost of campout
is $37 per scout plus $10 grub. An additional $2 will be collected to buy
pumpkins to launch on Saturday evening. Scouts will
shoot rifles and shotguns. The troop will need trained adults to attend,
and we will need to make sure we have enough rifles and shotguns for the
campout. This campout was
approved by the committee. 3.
Treasurer
~ Jeanie Lawson a.
Financial report was presented and approved by the committee b.
Mileage reimbursement was discussed and approved to raise
reimbursements by $.03 to compensate for the increased fuel costs. It was
the consensus of the committee that we will have trouble getting drivers
for campouts if they don’t recover most of their fuel costs. c.
Increase in grub money for the scouts was discussed.
The committee agreed that the troop will provide drinks, condiments
and paper goods for all campouts. A tighter control on reporting food
purchases was discussed and will be discussed with the patrols. Due to
higher campout costs, this discussion was tabled until spring. 4.

Woods ~ Nov. 1-2 at Camp Cherokee. Volunteers will be in charge of the BB gun
range. Several Webelos groups have asked to camp with Troop 81 so we will
need to stay overnight on Saturday. Those going will leave at 6am
Saturday, Nov. 1. Troop will
pay for fees and mileage as this is a recruiting event. Adults attending
are Miko Sprunck, Jim Hopkins and Steve Weaver. They will need 6 to 12
scouts. Mountain
biking campout ~ Webelos dens will be invited to join us for the
weekend or day. See notes in “mountain biking campout”. Troop
81 Open House ~ Saturday,
Nov. 8 from 2 to 4pm at New Life Church. Patrols will be manning
“booths” ~ Rope bridge, cooking, campsite construction, first aid and
fire building. Indoors will be slide shows and information. Miko will
present to the troop on Tuesday to get the scouts organized. Brady will
discuss how to greet and visit with the Webelos and their parents. We’d
like to have the Eagle plaque up to date…Laura will discuss with Cesar
Aragon to see if we can get the plates engraved in time. 9)
Camping ~ Tim Meeks No report. Committee discussed educating during the
next meeting about duties of grubmaster and treasurer. As these duties
rotate within the patrol, it’s rarely the same scout at each campout.
Once the scouts have organized their food for each campout, it should be
approved with their patrol counselor.
