Meeting In attendance: Brian Moore, Gale Marvin, Jim Hopkins, Rick Montgomery, Tim Meeks, John Benavides, Andrea Roberts, Randy Hood, Jim McKnight, Craig Christiansen, Dennis McCarthy, Keith Dustin, Laura Jones 1. February Camp (Family Camp) ~ Brian Moore Bonham State Park on Feb. 7-8, 2009. We will have our winter COH at 7pm. Scouts will be working on skills for Camporee, and all MB counselors are asked to provide answers/questions on their MB for a Jeopardy game. 2. Camporee ~ Jim Hopkins March 6-8, 2009. Tim will pay for troop on line to help earn points. Our troop will host the First-Aid booth. 3. Summer Camp ~ Jim McKnight Scout cost for June 21-27, 2009 was agreed to be $240. Payment deadlines for Constantin are 3/31/09 and 5/22/09. Late fees will apply after 5/22 deadline..this cost will be passed on to the individual scout. 4. Treasurer ~ Jeanie Lawson (not in attendance) No report. Laura will ask Jeanie to send out an update of scout accounts for distribution for the troop. 5. Meetings ~ Scott McCray (not in attendance) No report. Committee okayed moving spring COH to May 4th. Softball game will be May 11. 6. Leadership ~ Rick Montgomery Due to the small number of new scouts, Rick will find a Saturday in February for all to meet for New Leader training. All scouts wishing to hold an ASPL or SPL position must have attended Oak Leaf training…training dates available at www.northtrail.org . Committee discussed
requiring National Youth Leader Training as another requirement for ASPL/SPL
positions, but agreed that due to cost factor, it should not be
“required” but “encouraged”.
Scholarships for scouts are discussed on
page 78 of our gray notebook, and all scholarships are determined on an
individual basis by the Executive Committee (Head SM, Committee Chair, and
Treasurer). Open adult leadership opportunities will be sent out to the troop. Responses will be added to the slate. 7. Advancements ~ Lisa Wright (not in attendance) All advancements are due by January 26, 2009 for recognition at the
February COH. 8. Merit Badges ~ Andrea Roberts Current/former MB counselors will be asked to provide lists of scouts with partials. New parents will be asked to step up and lead a MB class. Chris Webb has offered to teach Aviation and Dan Ferree has offered to teach Weather…dates TBD. Scouts will be offered the opportunity to meet with Andrea to discuss their MBs – completions and partials- to see what they need to for Eagle. She will begin with older scouts and work her way down the grade levels. 9. Camping ~ Tim Meeks After checking with Jeanie on our budget for camping, Tim will look into buying coolers for the troop. 10. No PLC updates 11.
OA Update ~ Tim Meeks Troop OA election will be Monday, Feb. 2. We need a minimum of 20 scouts in attendance for voting. OA Crossover Ceremony group has been asked to perform three Arrow of Light ceremonies during February and March.Committee

May
Campout ~
presented by Brad M. Campout will be May 1-3, 2009 to Mr. Marvin’s property in
Gatesville. There will be opportunities to work on the Animal Science MB,
complete a conservation project for the Camping MB, sleep under the stars
for Wilderness Survival MB, and fishing.
There is also the opportunity to “defend your fort” with water
balloons and water guns. Cost for campout is $27 plus $10 grub. Campout
was approved by the Committee and will be presented to the troop on April
13, 2009. 3.
Summer
Camp 2009 ~
Jim McKnight Camp is June 21-27, 2009 at Camp Constantin at Possum
Kingdom Lake. We will need to reinforce TFC skills with the new scouts
each day when they return from their program. Several adults will need to
attend with them to make sure they’re completing their skills. 4.
Summer
Camp 2010 ~
Jim McKnight Transportation options were presented, bus vs. 15 passenger
vans. Troop Committee approved passenger vans due to cost. Committee
discussed need for fundraising to help offset the cost of travel. Current
estimate for this camp/travel without fundraising is $400 per scout. 5.
Scout Show ~ Tickets to sell have been picked up and will be handed out
at the 3/23 meeting. The Scout Show date/location has changed to May 2 at
The Ballpark in Arlington. Because this is during our last campout of the
year, we will not have a booth. Therefore, commissions for ticket sales
will be 30% instead of 50%. Those selling tickets must turn money in by to
receive the 30% commission. All commissions will go directly into the
scout’s account. 6.
Fund
Raising ~ Brian Moore will check into options for selling items such
as first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and greenery. Jim McKnight will check into “pancake breakfast” at
Applebee’s in August and hosting a Johnsonville Bratwurst booth in the
fall. 7.
Treasurer
~ Jeanie Lawson The treasurer’s report was approved by the committee. 8.
Meetings
~ Scott McCray COH in May will feature honoring our nine Eagles, Wood Badge
presentation along with adult/scout awards. The COH is scheduled for May
4, 2009. We will need to plan our 35 year celebration (didn’t the
last 10 years fly by?!) for Spring 2010. 9.
Leadership
~ Rick Montgomery New scouts need to be added to patrols. Troop Committee
discussed the need to merge into three strong patrols with new and older
scouts in each. This will be presented to the scouts at the 3/23 meeting
and put to a vote on how to divide everyone. 10.
Advancements
~ Andrea Roberts Andrea is still in the process of meeting with scouts to
discuss their merit badges. Several of the newer adults have volunteered
to lead MB classes in the fall/spring of next year. 11.
New
Scouts ~ Jim
Hopkins All new scouts need their Scout book, and anyone needing
leadership that is not in a MB class is needed to fill in as a Troop
Guide. Please let Mr. Hopkins know. 12.
PLC
Updates ~
Hayden M. Hayden read roses/thorns on Camporee. All scouts need 2-person tents and nothing bigger. No scouts more than 2
years apart in age are allowed to tent together. All scouts attending
the April campout must bring their tent to the 3/30 meeting for
inspection. Too many tents are missing footprints, tent stakes or have
loose/broken tent poles. 13.
Camping ~ Tim Meeks All SM are asked to provide 10 meals for each
breakfast/lunch/dinner that the scouts will choose from for campout meals.
Rotations will be made so that no meals will be repeated. Choices will be
made per patrol…with all changes implemented in the fall. Troop Committee approved the purchase of six new lanterns
for the troop. 14.
OA
Update ~ Tim
Meeks Yale AOL is March 28. No date yet for Dartmouth AOL. Next
Ordeal is May 15-17. Nick R., Garrett J. and Jim McKnight are planning to
attend. 15.
Adult
Leadership for 2009-2010
~ Laura Jones Troop Committee approved the slate for next year’s
leadership. Head SM: Rick Montgomery and Gale Marvin
