5.      Meetings ~ Scott McCray (not in attendance)

No report. Committee okayed moving spring COH to May 4th. Softball game will be May 11.

6.      Leadership ~ Rick Montgomery

Due to the small number of new scouts, Rick will find a Saturday in February for all to meet for New Leader training. All scouts wishing to hold an ASPL or SPL position must have attended Oak Leaf training…training dates available at www.northtrail.org .

Committee discussed requiring National Youth Leader Training as another requirement for ASPL/SPL positions, but agreed that due to cost factor, it should not be “required” but “encouraged”.  Scholarships for scouts are discussed on page 78 of our gray notebook, and all scholarships are determined on an individual basis by the Executive Committee (Head SM, Committee Chair, and Treasurer).

Open adult leadership opportunities will be sent out to the troop. Responses will be added to the slate.

7.       Advancements ~ Lisa Wright (not in attendance)

All advancements are due by January 26, 2009 for recognition at the February COH.

Current/former MB counselors will be asked to provide lists of scouts with partials.

New parents will be asked to step up and lead a MB class. Chris Webb has offered to teach Aviation and Dan Ferree has offered to teach Weather…dates TBD.

Scouts will be offered the opportunity to meet with Andrea to discuss their MBs – completions and partials- to see what they need to for Eagle. She will begin with older scouts and work her way down the grade levels.

9.      Camping  ~ Tim Meeks

After checking with Jeanie on our budget for camping, Tim will look into buying coolers for the troop.

  1.     April Campout ~ no updates

2.     May Campout ~ presented by Brad M.

There will be opportunities to work on the Animal Science MB, complete a conservation project for the Camping MB, sleep under the stars for Wilderness Survival MB, and fishing.  There is also the opportunity to “defend your fort” with water balloons and water guns. Cost for campout is $27 plus $10 grub. Campout was approved by the Committee and will be presented to the troop on April 13, 2009.

3.     Summer Camp 2009 ~ Jim McKnight

Camp is June 21-27, 2009 at Camp Constantin at Possum Kingdom Lake. We will need to reinforce TFC skills with the new scouts each day when they return from their program. Several adults will need to attend with them to make sure they’re completing their skills.

4.     Summer Camp 2010 ~ Jim McKnight

Transportation options were presented, bus vs. 15 passenger vans. Troop Committee approved passenger vans due to cost. Committee discussed need for fundraising to help offset the cost of travel. Current estimate for this camp/travel without fundraising is $400 per scout.

5.     Scout Show ~

Tickets to sell have been picked up and will be handed out at the 3/23 meeting. The Scout Show date/location has changed to May 2 at The Ballpark in Arlington. Because this is during our last campout of the year, we will not have a booth. Therefore, commissions for ticket sales will be 30% instead of 50%. Those selling tickets must turn money in by to receive the 30% commission. All commissions will go directly into the scout’s account.

6.     Fund Raising ~

Brian Moore will check into options for selling items such as first-aid kits, fire extinguishers, and greenery.

Jim McKnight will check into “pancake breakfast” at Applebee’s in August and hosting a Johnsonville Bratwurst booth in the fall.

7.     Treasurer ~ Jeanie Lawson

The treasurer’s report was approved by the committee.

8.     Meetings ~ Scott McCray

COH in May will feature honoring our nine Eagles, Wood Badge presentation along with adult/scout awards. The COH is scheduled for May 4, 2009.

We will need to plan our 35 year celebration (didn’t the last 10 years fly by?!) for Spring 2010.

9.     Leadership ~ Rick Montgomery

New scouts need to be added to patrols. Troop Committee discussed the need to merge into three strong patrols with new and older scouts in each. This will be presented to the scouts at the 3/23 meeting and put to a vote on how to divide everyone.

10. Advancements ~ Andrea Roberts

Andrea is still in the process of meeting with scouts to discuss their merit badges. Several of the newer adults have volunteered to lead MB classes in the fall/spring of next year.

11. New Scouts ~ Jim Hopkins

All new scouts need their Scout book, and anyone needing leadership that is not in a MB class is needed to fill in as a Troop Guide. Please let Mr. Hopkins know.

12. PLC Updates ~ Hayden M.

Hayden read roses/thorns on Camporee. All scouts need 2-person tents and nothing bigger. No scouts more than 2 years apart in age are allowed to tent together.

All scouts attending the April campout must bring their tent to the 3/30 meeting for inspection. Too many tents are missing footprints, tent stakes or have loose/broken tent poles.

13. Camping ~ Tim Meeks

All SM are asked to provide 10 meals for each breakfast/lunch/dinner that the scouts will choose from for campout meals. Rotations will be made so that no meals will be repeated. Choices will be made per patrol…with all changes implemented in the fall.

Troop Committee approved the purchase of six new lanterns for the troop.
