Family camp will be held February twentieth. Scouts will go with
their families to Fort Parker State Park. Families can arrive either
Friday night or Saturday morning. Families that arrive Friday night will
have to provide their own food for Friday dinner and Saturday breakfast.
Church
Expansion
Richland Bible Fellowship is expanding the building the troop meets
in. To do this they need approximately 2.3 million dollars. The troop has
pledged $3000 to the church for this. The total pledges so far amount to
1.5 million dollars.
Proposed
Changes to Troop Policy
Adult volunteers holding a troop position are strongly recommended
to wear scout uniforms; however, they do not have to wear any parts of the
uniform they do not currently own.
The question was raised: how are we
going to fit our troop into family camp next year?
Ideas for solving this problem were: 1)
Put the scouts in the rec. hall 2) Have the Court of Honor in the Dining
hall 3) Go to a different park next year
The final decision will be made at the
June PLC
Camporee
The theme of Camporee this year will be
George Washington. Points at Camporee, to determine the winner, will be
given for showing scout skills. All meals except Saturday dinner will be
provided by the troop. There will be a cook-off on late 18th
century foods. Each patrol should present ideas on dishes. Each patrol
should also submit 3-10 Rules of civility to Jason H. Five scouts
will be needed for a close order marching drill.
April
Campout
It will be an over-night canoe trip.
Discussions
It was proposed that the troop change Class A hats;
this will be discussed further at a later date.
1. There will be a swim party on the 16th of this month
from 6:30 to 8:00, the lifeguards will be J.C. C, and Jeff C. (dues
will also be collected on this night which is 60$)
2. There are no plans for the rock climbing camp out yet.
3. Always take camping before taking cooking and wilderness survival
4. Our previous ASLP camping person is leaving so that Poisson is now open.
5. There will now be an activity track along with the 7th and 8th grader
activities. There needs to be an adult delegated to organize these activities,
and a scout need to work along with him planing the events and so on. Some idea
we came up with was catapults, basketball, KIMS games, Frisbee golf c.o.p.e.
games (Brandon's idea)
6. Military camp out needs to get under way.
7. Extra PLC 13th
8. Patrol responsibilities were past out, which will be handed out at the swim
party.
9. Adult mentor meeting has been moved to attend during the swim party on the
16th.
10. Also we need to come up with a design for our new troop hat.

September campout review:
Trailers shouldn't drive around to hand out tents because a lot of people had to
wait a long time to get theirs; it was a good idea, though, for the trailers to
hand out chuck boxes and food boxes. Everyone needs to participate more to get
everything packed so that we can leave on time. Other than that, the campout was
good. If someone is going to be coming to a campout on Saturday, that
information needs to be written down as well as the approximate time that they
will be there. It was decided that a letter of thanks should be sent to Scott
Winn for helping out at the rappelling campout.
November campout:
The November campout will be the fishing campout which will be held either at
Camp Cherokee or Camp Meisenbach -- most likely Meisenbach. It will be about 190
miles round trip, making the price between 18 and 25 dollars. Activities will
include the following: fishing, going to a hatchery, and working on merit
badges. The hatchery will cost about $5.50 per person. The question of fishing
gear and fishing licenses have yet to be answered.
Last year's PLC decided to change the troop hats. Another vote was taken to make
sure that everyone still feels that way. Ten people were for changing the hats,
two people were against, and four abstained. It was decided that there will be a
contest for the design for a new hat; it should be cost-efficient and is
encouraged to be red. The methods of deciding on which design should be used was
voted on: eleven people voted for system which the PLC narrows down the
selections, and the troop decides. One person voted for system in which the PLC
decides for all. Four people voted for system in which the troop decides all.
All entries must be turned in to Mr. Kelly by January 1st. After a vote of
eleven for and two against, the PLC decided that they will meet at 6:45 on
January 10th to narrow down design selections. At that troop meeting, the troop
will decided which design to use for the new hat.
Nametags:
A vote was taken on changing the troop nametags to a newer, more durable one.
The new one will cost about $2, but will take less time to make and will last
for a long time. Fourteen people voted for the new nametag and two abstained.
Other:
Mr. Kelly said that we will not be going on a campout unless he sees the duty
roster and menu for every patrol the Monday night before we leave. Each menu
should also include the cost of supplies needed for that meal, such as charcoal.
Also, both the menu and the duty roster must be posted on every campout. From
now on, Sunday breakfasts must be cooked as well as Saturday breakfasts. Mr.
Herrin said that he will start inspecting utensils inside chuck boxes to make
sure that they are clean, because he said that he has seen some that haven't
been cleaned in months. All patrols need to have pots that they can used for
washing dishes, rather than rinsing dishes under campsite faucets; each patrol
should have soap and sponges for cleaning their dishes properly. Also from now
on, all lost items need to be returned to their owner without making them pay to
get it back. The exceptions are fixed blade knives, which should be turned in to
Mr. Kelly.
Thoughts on campout:
Liked Bon-fire, breakfast was done quickly; everyone was up earlier, only had to
patrol the area once for trash.
Improvements:
Some people didn’t like doing the rope bridge, problems with campsites being
moved, (lightning) one reason for this was there were many adults and it forced
some boys to move. Mr. Kelly comments that the rope bridge is a good way to use
scouts skills. And C.J. Charter had to do something he wasn’t supposed too
January Campout:
Stags are in charge of this campout. At this time it is not decided where it
will be.
Winter Camp:
Will be around $100 and it will be the 27-31 or Dec.
Family Camp:
Is the November campout, and is a campout designed to show kids families what
they have learned. Each Patrol was assigned a job, which are:
Compass course: Stags
Fire Building: Flaming arrow
Knots: Scorpion
Lashings: Dragon
Setting up a model campsite:
Viper
1st aid: lightning
Cooking: White Fang
(Will take about 20 min per
event)
Miscellaneous:
When Phone calls are made patrol leaders need to tell people which classes are
being offered that night and which assignments are due.
If anyone has a design for the new Troops 81 hats the need to turn them in.
There are 7 more meetings till the next courts of honor.
There is a book adults must fill out and turn back to
SPL telling which scouts are in his car when adults drive up to campouts. Scouts
also need to help remind new adults.
